Some cars simply refuse to be pigeonholed. This 1986 Land Rover Defender 90 is a fine example. The undisputed highlight of this Defender is the 3. 9-litre Rover V8, which gives this classic off-roader a dimension all of its own. Combined with the gorgeous bronze exterior paint and the rugged off-road accessories, this is a Defender that invites adventurous journeys, both on the public road and well beyond it.
Several years ago the vehicle underwent an extensive body-off restoration, carried out privately by the previous owner. During this work the chassis was treated and the bodyshell was stripped completely bare and resprayed. The rear hardtop was also entirely remanufactured and then painted black.
The restoration is documented solely through photographs. The extent to which a mechanical overhaul of the drivetrain components took place alongside the bodywork and chassis work is not known. The available photos also suggest that a new clutch has been fitted, although this has not been definitively confirmed.
The Defender wears a striking bronze metallic paint, complemented by various black accents. The modified front end, with KBX grille, LED lighting, off-road tyres on black alloy wheels and robust bumpers, gives the car a pronounced presence. A winch has also been fitted to the front. The bodywork is in good condition, with some signs of use appropriate to the age and character of the vehicle.
The interior has also been tailored to match the car's look. The Defender is fitted with sports seats with four-point harnesses, a modified three-spoke sports steering wheel and additional gauges. The combination of the modified cockpit and the Rover V8 makes this a Defender with a character all of its own.
The indicated mileage is 96, 596 miles. The actual mileage cannot be guaranteed.
