Mercedes Benz 280SL 1982 R107 Convertible
KUR 595Y, finished in metallic Thistle Green with matching interior, brown soft-top and Thistle Green hard-top. Original example that has spent most of its life in the Canterbury area and is in very fine condition. The car comes with a comprehensive history file with lots of MOT certificates to confirm the modest mileage of 85, 800. An economical car (30mpg on a run), it drives extremely well and comes with the usual Mercedes refinements such as cruise control, automatic drive, econometer, central locking, electric windows, power assisted steering, adjustable headlights etc. The interior is superb in matching green MB Tex/ check. The car has a brown soft-top in excellent condition as well as a perfect hard-top.
The six cylinder in-line engine has fuel injection, twin-overhead camshafts and transistorised ignition and produces 185bhp. It is gloriously smooth and powerful and these engines are known for their reliability. It is mated to the optional four-speed torque convertor transmission that provides a fine and relaxed ride. The car is fitted with refurbished Mexican Top Hat alloy wheels and new tyres (not shown on photos, old wheels and legal tyres will be passed to new owner). Dual-circuit servo assisted brakes with discs to all four wheels are re-assuringly powerful.
I drove this car to the South of France last March (2012) and to Classic Le Mans in July where it performed faultlessly. A comment from a pretty toll-booth operator (only one in France?) was “…votre voiture semble très beau monsieur”. The SL has also appeared at a number of classic car shows, where it always attracts attention. It comes with a full MOT (no advisories) and tax until the end of August. Classic car insurance is less than £150! This SL280 drives beautifully and will be a credit to any future owner. A very fine example indeed. Well worth a visit up to Constable Country to view.
