Austin A60 Cambridge
Offered for sale is my 1968 Austin A60 Cambridge. I have owned this car for a good few years now and due to a pending house move I have to sell up and reluctantly offer it for sale.
This car comes with a very comprehensive history file, right down to the original bill of sale. I also have every single MOT certificate for the car since new. To my knowledge this car has never failed an MOT in its life and has always been very well cared for throughout its entire life. It has 2 previous owners since new and both owners were in the same family. The car was bought new then on the death of its original owner the car was inherited by his nephew until I acquired it.
The car was built in the Cowley plant and it is a 1968 Austin A60 Cambridge Deluxe. It’s finished in Dominican Blue with an Old English White flash. The bodywork is excellent and very solid; the only welding it’s ever had was half an outrigger on the driver’s side. The outrigger section that was replaced was an original BMC part and this repair was carried out sometime in the 1980’s, at the same time the passenger wing was replaced due to a minor accident and again this panel was replaced with a genuine BMC wing and was carried out to a very high standard by its previous owner.
Since my ownership I have replaced the engine and gearbox. The engine was replaced with a 40, 000 mileage unit and was converted to run on unleaded. The reason the engine was changed was because the old unit had worn piston rings and at the time I happened to have a cracking spare engine lying around so I fitted it. I also had a brand new gold seal gearbox in my garage so I just replaced this too and fitted a new clutch while it was apart and sold my old box to a mate who needed one for his car.
The car has 4 very good radial Dunlop tyres fitted and also the spare is a Dunlop. The spare is not in the best of conditions but it’s still very serviceable and would get you home should the event arise! The car drives perfectly with no knocks or bangs and the steering is light. The car is economical on fuel for its age and will return no less than 33mpg. I had it return 37mpg on a long run!
I have regularly serviced this car myself and its last service was just a few months ago. For its last service I carried out a full oil change, plugs, points and air/ oil filter replaced. This year I have also changed the Dymino (Lucas), starter motor (Lucas), starter solenoid and changed the fuel pump for an electronic unit (SU). All parts fitted are brand new! I have also recently changed the carpet set as the old set was badly worn. The set fitted was a home made effort but to a very good standard (I couldn’t afford to buy the correct set at the time) throughout my ownership I have never scrimped on service or parts.
The vehicle’s condition is mainly original and is excellent considering it’s now 40! The underside is like new as are the sills and wheel arches. The car is taxed and mot’d. The car has had a very discreet modification to its windscreen washers. An electronic washer motor has been fitted and has been wired up inside the original push pump on the dashboard so it doesn’t look out of place so instead of pumping the washer fluid onto the screen you just push the trigger in and the electric pump kicks in (very discreet)! It also has halogen head lights fitted.
Summary
In summary, everything that should work on the car works! It benefits from free road tax and is ready to take to classic car shows. Viewing is highly recommended and warmly welcomed by interested parties by prior arrangement. Don't expect to just turn up unannounced and hope to see the car as you will be disappointed as its garaged and out of site.
The car is located in Livingston (EH54) and easily accessed via the M8 Motorway or A71. The car is taxed and tested so it can be driven away. All you need to do is insure it! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have
