A new project means that I no longer have garage space for my Maestro which I have owned for four years.
There was one owner before me and he bought the car new from Lex Mead in Bexleyheath where it was serviced every year regardless of mileage until 1994. From then on a local independent did an annual service irrespective of mileage. In addition to oils and filters etc. the Automatic Transmission Fluid was changed every two years
I have the Austin Rover stamped Service Record and invoices subsequently when that was filled. Rarely does such a meticulous service history record such as this one present itself.
After the last recorded service on 31st July 2007 at 20, 431 miles, it is believed that the vehicle was laid up until sold to me on 1st May 2012. A part of the presale recommisioning involved new front wheel bearings, new fuel pump and replacement hatchback struts.
In the four years I have owned the car the cam belt has been renewed, oil and filter have been changed every year and brake fluid every other year.
In addition, the headlining has been replaced and a manual coke conversion done.
As Austin Rover aficionados will know, the Vanden Plas is the top of the range model with;-
Automatic Transmission
Power Steering
Electric Front Windows
Tilt/ Slide Metal Sunroof (Manual)
Interior Door Mirror Adjustment
Key Operated Central Locking
The seat upholstery is cloth in Oyster Grey which has always been protected with fitted covers. Underneath is clean and unworn.
The body and paintwork is very presentable in Targa Red. There are the usual small scrapes and dings which most cars collect over 30 years but nothing to detract from the overall good condition.
The tow bar was an Ebay bargain, fitted to protect the hard to obtain plastic rear bumper. It has never been used but can be with a single seven pin socket for trailer lights
Lastly, the original owner had the car "Waxoyled" or the equivalent then when it was new. Every hollow section was drilled for a lance to be inserted and the holes plugged afterwards with red stoppers. The whole of the underside and wheel arches were wax coated. This accounts for the solid state of the structure.
The engine is the 1, 600cc OHC "S" Series, a lively free revving unit giving 84bhp which has no difficulty keeping up with modern traffic.
The MOT is 12 months from 6th April 2016 with no advisories
