Beschreibung
A unique opportunity to obtain the original, masterpiece of design and classic quality engineering by the legendary Fairey Winches Ltd of Tavistock, Devon.
This winch set was originally ordered by FWD Motors Ltd. of Kingston-upon-Thames on 30/ 11/ 77 and was one of two; serial numbers 3335 and 3336.
This is serial no. 3336 and is complete in it's original packing crate from the factory.
The winch and contents of the fitting set are completely, as new and original with no rust whatsoever and for whatever reason, have never even been fitted or used.
The drive dog and support brackets are still in their original greased paper and do not appear to have ever even been opened and hence, I did not open them even for photographing.
It comes complete with original drive shaft; driving dog, washer and set screw; drive shaft support plate and bracket; starting handle; pack of 'rivnuts'; original purchase/ order receipt, complete with label warning unit has no oil in it, as supplied.
There is also a copy of fitting instructions/ parts list by Fairey, although these are not original.
This winch was designed and made by Fairey for and in association with Land Rover to fit the Series 2, 2a and 3 Land Rovers.
It comes with an engine governor by the Iso-Speedic Co. Ltd of Warwick, England which is recommended to be fitted and used, where any mechanical/ engine driven winch/ equipment is employed.
This is also in, as new, unused condition in it's original box, complete with warning label about it not being filled with oil, as supplied.
Another, classic, quality engineered piece of history.
I would be willing to split the two, the winch being £2000 and the governor would be £400.
I intended to fit this to my Series 2, however I never got around to it and in any event then thought this really would rather suit a concours project or museum standard vehicle; subsequently, I just stored them, as I thought too good to spoil by actually use.
I have subsequently fought with my conscience for a long time over parting with these and so am not going to start taking offers for them; I'd rather keep them, as they can only go up in value anyway.
I doubt you will ever come across these in this original condition, with the provenance the winch has, ever, again.
These quality winches which are the best ever made are getting rarer and rarer to find in good condition now, let alone one which is in it's original factory crate and is unused.
Collection only of course, however, if you want to arrange your own courier, then you are welcome to do so.
Once in a lifetime opportunity to finish off that concours Land Rover, with period equipment.
