This 1986 C-reg late model 300SL (4 speed switchable auto box) comes in the most desirable colour combination of nautic blue with grey MB-Tex interior. Having the 3 litre 6-cylinder engine gives this car just 10 horse power less than the 3. 5 litre V8 but the lighter weight out front makes it a more agile car that some people prefer due to its more “sporty” feel.
The car has a blue soft top hood that was replaced recently and is in very good condition. It also comes with a factory fitted hardtop. The grey interior includes factory-fitted rear seats and only has minor blemishes as MB-Tex is almost indestructible.
Its body work is good with only minor imperfections but the car is certainly not perfect owing to its mileage of almost 185, 000 and the limited amount of history available. The lower front wishbones and shocks, as well as the distributor cap have recently been replaced at a cost of over £2, 500 and it has benefited from an oil service and machine polish.
Prices on R107 model Mercedes go up year on year with the best of the best commanding prices equivalent or more than when new. This lovely example provides a sensibly priced entry point to owning a classic Mercedes. It also has the benefit of being a base for a valuable restoration car due to its desirable colour if someone wants to embark on a project to improve its condition.
