For sale, through JOHN BROWN 4X4 LTD, Land Rover Series 3 in Deep Bronze Green (1983 - Released 2001).
2286cc Petrol. MOT until December 22nd 2017. Range Rover Differentials. Late release from the MOD, in 2001.
Here for sale we have a Ex-Military Series 3 in popular ragtop configuration. This vehicle also benefits from a popular colour scheme, with Deep Bronze Green matched with Sand Canvas and Limestone Wheels.
On the outside, this vehicle has a very period and ex-military feel - military lifting eyes are in place on the bumper as they should be, and the recent 750 tyres are of the correct Military 'Chevron' style. These tyres give enormous off-road ability, are self cleaning in design and give extra ground clearance, as well as the benefit of additional gearing due to being oversized.
The vehicle is fitted with a towbar and electrics, in addition to later defender-style door mirrors for better all round visibility. The bodywork is remarkably straight for a vehicle of this age, and has a nice glossy finish - often the downfall of military vehicles is the brush-painting, but there is no evidence of this here! A recent canvas and as-new stick set complement this glossy look, and make this ex-military truck a bit of a head turner.
On the inside, this Series 3 has very desirable Exmoor-Trim highback seats, which give added comfort over standard, and a seat-belt bar is mounted to allow the use of 3 point Inertia reel seatbelts for additional safety. Although the rear is unfitted, it could be easily modified to house bench seats so that 7 passengers can be carried with ease. The heater works well, and gets the cab to a good temperature even in colder weather - deluxe matting is fitted throughout, as with all our vehicles.
Out on the road, this old-girl really shines - perhaps due to the rigorous servicing the vehicles received in the military. The engine was replaced for a reconditioned unit in November 1994, and having done few miles since, runs sweetly and pulls well. With added Range Rover Differentials and 750 tyres, keeping up with modern traffic is far easier, and a higher cruising speed can be achieved without making your ears bleed!
In summary then, if you are looking for a smart, well maintained Series 3 then this could be for you. With popular colour scheme and ragtop configuration, it is sure to be a sound investment for the future, and an ideal machine for the upcoming warmer months. With the mechanical upgrades and larger tyres, this is the perfect machine for period looks with more modern drive-ability.
