1989 Moto Guzzi Spada 3 in great condition for age, in metallic gun metal grey, 35, 000 miles with original panniers, electronic ignition, Mot until April 2018. Three previous owner. I purchased this bike to re-commission and keeping but have decided to move it on as I have too many other projects.
The previous owner had this bike for 22 years and really looked after it very well. Don’t believe he took it out on winter roads and when garaged was sprayed with copious amounts of WD40. The paint is very good with a few age related marks. There are some scratches on the lower left hand fairing where something has been caught whilst manoeuvring. The paint has different shades of grey – there is a band of light grey across the middle gradually darkening at the top and bottom. The original bike was produced in two colours this design and also a turquoise green. Personally I far prefer this colour!
The bike has had new oil and filter, new Motobatt battery, with new plugs, plug caps and leads. The original electronic ignition was replaced with a Lucas Rita and starts and runs really well. This model has the 36mm Dellorto carbs which delivers one of the smoothest rides on a Guzzi. Switchgear has been changed for Suzuki items and was added as the OE items are not as robust as Japanese equivalent – all works well. Previous owner replaced the original screen with an aftermarket item which is very effective with deflecting the wind and is also in excellent order. The lower fairing keeps even your knees out of the wind and rain. The bike makes a great long distance tourer and delivers excellent fuel economy if used sensibly (60 mpg is easily attainable). Tyres have plenty of wear left on both.
Bike could be used as a basis for a café racer but seems a bit of a shame given it’s condition.
The bike did have a home made rack which fixed to the pannier carriers and is quite tidy. There is no topbox with the bike but a plate could be used in conjunction with the rack to fit one.
