Here for sale we have a high-spec Land Rover® Lightweight in popular but unusual hard-top configuration. The vehicle has a sizeable history file, which includes a Heritage Certificate, and MOT's dating back to 2006.
On the outside, many period military features survive, including front and rear military bumperettes, lifting eyes and military bridging plate. The original rear NATO hitch is also in place along with the correct Military headlights. Wider 650 modular tyres have been fitted, with spats attached to allow for the wider track. Side windows are fitted in the rear of the vehicle in order to give a Station Wagon Effect. A Galvanised Step is fitted to allow easy access to the rear... along with a rear door mounted full-size matching spare.
On the inside is where this vehicle stands out from other Lightweights - a full 'techno' seat set is fitted, along with forward facing rear seats. This means that five can be carried, and families can have children facing forward in the rear of the vehicle as in a normal vehicle. The seats are highback, so additional comfort and support is offered to passengers, whilst also increasing safety. The rear windows and alpine lights give further passenger comfort, meaning that the cabin really feels like a nice, airy space. A working heater is fitted in the front, and it gives nice, warm air into the cabin - nice for colder weather - and a front demist is fitted to the windscreen. The rear screen is also heated and this is wired to a switch on the dashboard discreetly.
All of this means that this Lightweight really is a one of a kind machine... the rear seats even fold away as per modern Defenders to reveal the entire load space, so you can carry just as much as any other Land Rover®! Despite the military look and feel, this vehicle becomes a practical family vehicle.... all the doors lock which means it would be ideal for those who live in the city too!
Out on the road, the wider tyres mean that the vehicle is far more comfortable for daily use, ironing out the bumps and making the drive is easier to live with. Free Wheeling Hubs are fitted to aid fuel economy and remove the issue of wear to the axles. These things combined mean that, even though the period driving experience survives, it feels much more like a modern vehicle than other Lightweights.. The gearbox has been recently reconditioned and is nice and tight - just as it would've been when it came out of the factory.
In summary, if you have been pining after a Land Rover®, however have always been worried about practicality, this vehicle is the one for you. With full locking, forward facing rear seats and 3 point belts, this makes the ideal family machine - or even for those who occasionally carry five adults. With the added benefit of Tax Exemption, and ex-military history, it should prove cheap to run and insure.
