First introduced in 1965 the Nissan President was marketed towards the Japanese wealthy and elite as its long wheelbase and large engine displacement meant the model was only affordable by those in the top road tax bracket. Offered initially with either a 3 liter straight six or a 4 liter V8, the President featured a lavishly appointed interior featuring front and rear air-conditioning, full power features, and rear seat heaters. 1973 saw the introduction of the 197 horsepower 4. 4 liter V8 engine, further enhancing the performance and exclusiveness of the President. Their legendary quality and performance attracted many of Japans high society including former Prime Minister Eisaku Sat?. Nissan’s flagship would see a slight redesign in 1982 with upgraded suspension, larger fuel tank and modern square shaped headlamps, while 1985 marked the first appearance of the Sovereign VIP trim level.
