Beschreibung
The Peugeot 104 is a city car motor car designed by Paolo Martin and produced by the French car manufacturer Peugeot between 1972 and 1988. Essential a 70's design, the car received a number of face lifts and upgrades over its long production run. It was the predecessor to the 205.
The engine is a frugal 950 4 cylinder petrol engine called the PSA X engine, an all-aluminium alloy, chain driven overhead cam, with gearbox in the sump, sharing engine oil, which was jointly developed with Renault. The engine was mounted leaning backwards, at a 72 degree angle.
This car has had a very sheltered life notching up only 40, 800 miles in 34 years. All of the ownerships and mileages are well documented.
When I purchased the car in early 2016 it was in excellent health mechanically with much re commissioning work done by a previous owner (please ask)Overall the body work was very sound but the paint was faded and a little patchy, after much deliberation and polishing, the only option was for fresh paint from below the roof down, and some very minor repairs.
Inside the original cloth had perished so I had all the seats out anyway to clean the car and had them re trimmed in a cloth that the interior designers would have been proud of.
Under the bonnet all looks very original, and now modestly detailed by me. Eg fresh black powder coating to some ancillary parts.
The car is a delight to drive, with excellent visibility, light but un powered steering, easy clutch and 4 speed box. Everything works as it should.
Mechanically it wants for nothing having just walked through an MOT with no advisories. I will sell the car with fresh oil and filters.
I recently took the car to the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional (brilliant) where the car was much admired and photographed.
This is a very rare car in Europe and in this condition unique. It is a perfect everyday classic to use, take to shows or travel in. I am very attached to the car but with many other projects and new ones to follow she has to go to a new home. (my mother has one new in the 70's, which as an 18 yr old then got very rough treatment from me . I loved it then but even more now, as its an addictive fun car to own.
Two things to note for the observant the face eg lights and grill come from an S spec model (but new/ old parts) I have the original, all in good order. They are interchangeable with some minor fettling. I just think it looks the part, and the head lights match the swage lines of the bonnet. Its more Peugeot.
I also found on line an original Peugeot (in the box) rear wiper, and had this fitted, but wiring incompatibility but I am sure someone can solve it.
Re the price it reflects the condition and originality of the car, if it takes a year to sell that's fine with me as I get to keep it.
substantially reduced price for this exceptional small French car.
