YAMAHA CS5E – 200cc
Following the success of their CS3, Yamaha launched the CS5 in 1972, There was no CS4 by the way.
Reason being the as you may well known the Japanese are very superstitious and the number 4 is deemed to be very unlucky in Japan, hence no number 4 model.
This model often and incorrectly described as an RD in some reference books, the CS5E was one of the forerunners to the mighty RD 250, the other being the YDS7 the letter E was in reverence to its electric starter, a very cool addition at the time.
At 117 kg with a twin 2 stroke motor that had a maximum peak output power of 22 HP at 7500 rpm and a mighty maximum Torque of 21. 28 Nm at 7000 rpm it was capable of reaching a maximum top speed of 83. 9 mph.
Not bad for a small twin that could be ridden on L-plates, with absolutely no training, back in 1972. Available only in the Purple/ White colour you see here with my example, they are an extremely rare sight these days. Will draw a crowd wherever it goes being of Iconic status.
Being registered in 1972, now classed as an historic vehicle – no road fund tax or MOT necessary.
Very rare and collectable presented in excellent useable condition.
Appreciating modern Classic
