NUFFIELD UNIVERSAL M4 1948 ROAD REG VERY EARLY TRACTOR

We get some interesting items throughout the year, this is one of the most collectable tractors we've had for a long time, it's one the very first Nuffield's every built with a very early serial number, in great running order, road registered, drive away and enjoy.

Released in 1948 the Universal M4 is powered by a Morris ETA side valve, 4 cylinder petrol / TVO engine only fitted to the first models, easily identified by calorimeter (temp gauge) protruding from the bonnet.
The tractor starts and runs very well, its exceptionally good to drive, very smooth and quiet. Firm, responsive steering, very good brakes and parking brake, all gears select easily, excellent clutch, no smoke when pushed hard and a good top end road speed.
This tractor is showing first registered in 1947 at the DVLA, a pre-release date, but we sadly have no history, the serial number is NT2948 which is recorded as 1948, could be a DVLA hiccup when it was re-registered in 1987, but regardless this is a very early example.
Very well presented and complete with a drawbar and toolbox, still has its original supplying dealers plaque from Lincolnshire on the nose cone. No signs of drips or leaks, new radiator recently fitted.
Log book will be applied for in the buyers name, its been checked at the DVLA, will take about 3 weeks to arrive.
Unused for some time, needs the lights fiddling with, one side light missing, would advise an oil change, lift arms not going up but rear end oil is like glue, front tyres have age cracks.
A great road run tractor, quick on the tarmac, only just over 2 tonnes so can be trailer-ed about no problem.
One to own and enjoy, a very tidy and desirable tractor, a good investment.
