Originally European, it has everything to appeal to you! History The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette was the final result of more than half a decade of research on and off the track. Designed by Bill Mitchell and Zora Arkus-Duntov, the second-generation Corvette literally evolved from a racing car—that is, the Stingray Mitchell created (and privately funded out of his own pocket). Even its name, given to the racing car because of its resemblance to a real stingray, stayed and forever defined the C2 as the “Corvette Sting Ray”. The car was an instant marketing success. Given its improved and reinvented styling compared with the C1, and the impressive advances made in the car’s performance and handling, there was no doubt that the second-generation Corvette would be a triumph. Even so, no one could have predicted that Mitchell’s ingenious design and Duntov’s engineering magic would produce a sports car that would become as popular and successful as the 1963 Corvette. “Only a man with a stone heart could resist a temptation like this” was the opening advertisement for the Sting Ray. The original 1963 Sting Ray coupé is considered one of the most collectible Corvettes of all time thanks to its unique split rear window design. Surprisingly, many split-window coupés were modified—some even replaced the small individual panes with a single-piece plexiglass window. Even more surprisingly, Chevrolet began offering replacement one-piece windows via its dealers. As a result, many 1963 Corvette coupés have lost a considerable amount of their collectible value. Description The model we present to you is a European car from Belgium. It comes from a private collection. The Corvette is equipped with the 5. 4L V8 (327ci) producing 340 hp, built in 6, 978 examples in 1963 out of a total of 117, 964 built over 5 years of all types combined. The car is Matching Numbers (engine, gearbox, colour) and is being offered for sale in exceptional condition. The bodywork has been restored to a very high standard. The paint is superb, and no major defects are reported. The windows are tinted, as is the windscreen; everything is in good condition. The aluminium Knock-Off wheels are in excellent condition, as new, as are the whitewall tyres. The 5. 4 L V8 runs well, does not consume oil and does not run hot. A major mechanical overhaul was carried out in November 2022: replacement of the water pump, replacement of the fan clutch, carburettor change, fitment of a Pertronix, along with replacement of the speed selector switch gasket and replacement of the gearbox mount, including gearbox and engine oil changes/ drain. The brakes were also reviewed the same year, with replacement of the master cylinder after machining/ recut of the front drums. The suspension was reworked: replacement of the rear shock absorbers, replacement of the rear camber link, replacement of the rear axle silent blocks, and replacement of the rear wheel tree/ universal joints (driveshaft joints). In addition, there were small yet important comfort/ maintenance items such as the starter relay, indicator/ flasher unit, door locking system, alignment of the front bumpers, alignment of the exhausts, seat fixings, adjustment of the front headlights and the wipers. The Corvette starts instantly and the ride height is correct—neither too high at the front nor too low at the rear. It is stable on the road; the steering makes it easy and pleasant to drive; the gearbox is precise and the braking is spot-on. The lines of this car are fabulous, and in this very rare specification/ colourway, with its unique simili-leather interior, it is one of the finest C2s we have to offer for sale. A bespoke stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted to the car in 2022 (photos to follow). The clutch was redone in 2024 (clutch + replacement of the flywheel + replacement of the exhaust manifold outlet gaskets). Registered in France on collection (CY) documents: OK. Service file. Our view Without question, it’s a beautiful car with a clear, straightforward history that will bring joy to a collector! A real gem like we love…
