Offered An essential C2 Corvette! European in origin, it has everything to please! History The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette was the end result of more than half a decade of research on and off the track. Designed by Bill Mitchell and Zora Arkus-Duntov, the second-generation Corvette literally evolved from a race car - namely the Stingray that Mitchell created (and privately financed out of his own pocket.) Even its name, which was given to the race car because of its resemblance to a real stingray, stuck and defined the C2 forever as the "Corvette Sting Ray". The car was an instant marketing success. Given its improved and reinvented styling from the C1, and the impressive advances made to the car's performance and handling, there was no doubt that the second-generation Corvette would be a triumph. Even so, no one could have guessed that Mitchell's ingenious design and Duntov's engineering wizardry would produce a sports car that would become as popular or as successful as the 1963 Corvette. "Only a man with a heart of stone could resist a temptation like this" was the Sting Ray's inaugural advertisement. The original 1963 Sting Ray coupe is considered one of the most collectible Corvettes of all time due to its unique split rear window design. Surprisingly, many split-window coupes have been modified, with some replacing the small individual windows with a one-piece plexiglass window. What's even more surprising is that Chevrolet began offering replacement monoblock windows through its dealers. As a result, many 1963 Corvette coupes lost a considerable amount of their collector's value. Description The model we are presenting is a European model from Belgium. It comes from a private collection. The Corvette is powered by a 340 hp 5L4 (327ci) V8 engine, and 6, 978 were built in 1963 out of a total of 117, 964 built in 5 years, all types combined. The car is Matching Numbers (engine, gearbox, colour) and is being offered for sale in exceptional condition. The bodywork has been beautifully restored. The paintwork is superb and there are no major defects to report. The windscreen and tinted windows are in good condition. The Knock Off aluminium wheels are in excellent new condition, as are the whitewall tyres. The 5. 4-litre V8 engine runs smoothly, consumes no oil and doesn't overheat. A major mechanical overhaul was carried out in November 2022, changing the water pump, the fan clutch, the carburettor, fitting a Pertronix, replacing the gear selector seal and changing the gearbox support, including draining the gearbox and engine. The brakes were overhauled the same year, with replacement of the master cylinder after rectifying the front drums. The suspension was overhauled with replacement of the rear shock absorbers, replacement of the rear camber strut, replacement of the rear axle silentblocks and replacement of the rear axle spiders. In addition to this, a number of small but not insignificant operations were carried out, such as replacing the starter relay, the central indicator, locking the doors, aligning the front bumpers, aligning the exhausts, fitting the seats and adjusting the headlights and windscreen wipers. The Corvette starts right up and its ride height is just right, neither too high at the front nor too low at the rear. It's stable on the road, its steering makes it supple to drive, its gearbox is precise and so is its braking. The lines of this car are fabulous and in this very rare livery with its unique leatherette interior make it one of the most beautiful C2s we have to offer for sale. A bespoke stainless steel exhaust system was fitted to the car in 2022 (photos to come), the clutch was redone in 2024 (clutch + change of flywheel + manifold outlet gaskets). The car has a French collector's registration certificate CY OK Follow-up file Our opinion This is undoubtedly a beautiful car with a clear history that will delight any collector! A nugget just the way we like it...
