This classic vehicle has undergone a careful and progressive restoration, carried out with diligence between 2016 and 2017 to restore its original shine and reliability.
The mechanicals were completely rebuilt in 2016, ensuring optimal engine operation and the major technical components. This work was performed to a high standard, with particular attention paid to reliability and preservation of original elements.
In 2017, the aesthetic aspects were addressed:
The exterior paint was fully redone in a shade faithful to the original, today presenting an impeccable finish and a generous shine.
The upholstery was also renovated to near-new condition in the same year, using quality materials in keeping with the period style.
All in all, this is a vehicle with a revived look and sound mechanicals, ready to hit the road or enrich a private collection. This restoration work, spread over two years, demonstrates a commitment to doing things properly without compromising on quality.
Mercedes 220 SE W111 (1964): The pinnacle of German engineering elegance
At a time when the automobile embodied a lifestyle, the Mercedes 220 SE W111 shone like a jewel on European roads. From the Stuttgart workshops, it blends mechanical rigor, aesthetic refinement and innovation, with a vision where every Mercedes was conceived in the smallest detail.
At first glance, it commands attention: in the coupé version it embodies German seriousness with a dash of charm. The discreet tail fins on the rear wings; hence its nickname “Heckflosse”; the taut lines and generous chrome sign a rare presence.
Under the bonnet, a 2. 2-litre inline six with Bosch mechanical fuel injection delivers 120 horsepower, with a smooth, linear delivery and a hushed note. The 4-speed manual gearbox is smooth, and the handling, thanks to the articulated rear axle, remains exemplary even today.
The coupé 220 SE, designed by Paul Bracq, is a masterpiece of flow: low, elegant lines, without excess. The interior, dressed in leather, veneered wood and chrome, evokes the hushed ambiance of a yacht. In red, the effect is spectacular.
More than a car, it was a manifesto. That of a demanding driver, passionate about technique as much as style, willing to wait months for a machine shaped like a bespoke suit.
Today, the 220 SEs are collectible pieces, carefully restored or preserved. And as soon as the six-cylinder hums at start-up, you understand: here elegance is mechanical, subtle, almost spiritual.
Once you’ve tasted it, you won’t want to go back.
