The MG A 1500 is an iconic roadster produced by MG between 1955 and 1959. Here are its main features and its history:
History and positioning
The MG A 1500 was launched in 1955 to succeed the TF series, marking a shift towards a more modern and higher-performance car.
It was presented at the 1955 London Motor Show and quickly won admirers with its elegant design and accessible performance.
The 1500 was produced in 59, 250 examples, making it the most widespread version of the MGA line.
Technical specifications
Engine: Inline four-cylinder BMC B-Series, 1, 489 cc, 68 to 72 bhp (depending on versions), powered by two SU carburettors.
Transmission: 4-speed manual, rear-wheel drive.
Performance:
Top speed: around 150 km/ h.
0–100 km/ h acceleration: around 16 seconds.
Chassis and braking:
Front independent suspension, rear rigid axle.
Drum brakes on all four wheels (later 1600 versions would have discs at the front).

Evolution and features
The MG A 1500 was offered as a Cabriolet and a Coupe (from 1956).
It was replaced in 1959 by the MG A 1600, more powerful and equipped with front discs.
The 1500 is often regarded as the most “pure” and most aesthetically pleasing of the MGA range, with its small taillights and uncluttered interior.
