Description
L’Atelier des 1000 is pleased to offer for sale this superb Triumph TR4 A IRS, presented in its original livery, an elegant Royal Blue paired with a blue leather interior and a black hood.
Launched in 1961 and designed by the famous coachbuilder Giovanni Michelotti, the TR4 succeeds the TR3 and marks a major evolution for Triumph’s roadster lineage.
With its more modern lines, increased interior space and improved comfort, it manages to fuse British elegance with approachable sporting character. Its instantly recognisable styling and playful nature have made it one of the most appreciated models in the 'TR' range.
The IRS version (Independent Rear Suspension) introduces independent rear suspension, replacing the early TR4A’s solid rear axle. The result is improved handling, greater comfort and more progressive grip in corners.
This example stands out for its exceptionally rare, entirely original specification, as confirmed by its Heritage certificate. Indeed, it is Matching Numbers and Matching Colors!
Its current condition reflects remarkable preservation, bearing witness to the care lavished on its upkeep over the past 60 years.
Beyond the rarity of an original factory paint still present on a 1960s car, this explains the meticulous care given during its use and storage, and protects against any bodywork risk when the day comes for a respray.
Its light blue stripe on the bonnet, however, is not original to the model; it was added at the exclusive request of the first owner when it was ordered new in 1967 from the dealer.
The mechanicals run correctly, the engine starts easily, without noise or smoke, and delivers a healthy rise in revs.
Compression readings have been checked, and they are good and consistent.
The gearbox selects and engages gears smoothly, while the clutch works effectively, showing no signs of wear.
The running gear offers solid handling, and the suspension fulfils its function perfectly.
The steering is light and precise, notably thanks to the rack-and-pinion replacement carried out for sale.
Braking is sound and balanced; the brakes are recent and the system has just been flushed and the brake hoses replaced for the sale.
The wheels are in excellent condition, as are the associated chrome trims, and the whole setup rides on new tyres.
The original paint, still present nearly 60 years on, naturally shows a uniform patina tied to time, giving the whole car an authentic charm we especially value.
The sills are in perfect condition, with no dents or corrosion.
The chrome work is gleaming and enhances the bodywork.
The interior presents in very good overall condition, offering a neat and authentic ambience. The blue upholstery, recently redone, particularly enhances the cabin, as do the door tops, carpets and mats which are new.
The wood trim, well preserved, shows a light patina in keeping with the car's age and contributes to its original charm. The dashboard, too, is period-correct and shows time-worn marks a touch more visible.
The three-spoke Bakelite steering wheel is well preserved, and the instrumentation is all functional.
The black alpaca hood is in perfect condition, accompanied by a black leather tonneau cover.
Given its elegant specification and overall condition, this car is offered at €27, 490.
