Description
For sale: a 1962 New York Checker Marathon taxi in the CGF collection
Originally equipped with a six-cylinder engine, the first French owner swapped in a 5. 7‑litre V8 engine, upgraded and originally intended for a Corvette.
Performance is quite impressive for this kind of car, a bit like a muscle‑car taxi.
Capable of cruising at sensible road speeds as well as hill climbs or enjoying a spin on a circuit.
Probably unique in Europe in this configuration.
This engine develops around 320–340 bhp compared with 180–200 bhp for the original V8.
This taxi underwent a major rebuild after being out of service for about 6 or 7 years.
New parts are:
- The carburettor with the air filter
- The alternator
- The belts
- The radiator with its electric fan
This taxi has also undergone a full overhaul including:
- The radiator with its electric fan
- The shock absorbers
- The electronic ignition
- The electric fuel pump
- The booster and master cylinder
- The wheel cylinders
- And I’m sure there are more…
Obviously, a full mechanical service was carried out, including:
- Engine oil and gearbox/ differential oil change, cooling system, spark plugs, battery, and plug leads.
- Oil, temperature and voltage gauges were added.
- There is also a full bespoke stainless steel exhaust system.
This taxi runs perfectly and is ready to hit the road over any distance.
The French roadworthiness check is valid.
