This Sunbeam Lotus Chrysler, one of the 400 units produced, remains in a very fine state of preservation. Proof: the original black paint matched with the characteristic white stripe on these models shows a uniform patina. Exterior elements such as the headlights, badges, plastics and rims are in excellent condition, well preserved despite their 46 years.
Inside, the original white fabric seats, equally well preserved, have been replaced with two OMP 'CHAMP' bucket seats, giving the driver the support needed behind the wheel of this beast.
Of course, the original upholstery will be sold with the car, as will the rear bench which is still present in the cabin. The leathers, from door panels to the dashboard through the gear lever gaiter, are in exceptionally good condition and are paired with a beautiful patina. The original leather steering wheel is also in excellent condition, as are the analogue gauges, all fully functional.
The vehicle sits on a healthy chassis, with no structural corrosion, meeting balance and safety criteria as demonstrated during our test drive. The entire chassis is protected by a black underbody coating, beneath which a genuine sport exhaust line allows the Lotus engine to breathe fully.
This Lotus engine, a 2. 0-litre unit with 160 horsepower, behaves very well both hot and cold. Maintaining its original liveliness, it has full maintenance history and presents very well in a clean engine bay. The five-speed manual gearbox paired with it works perfectly, smoothly and without a hitch.
In short, this Talbot Sunbeam Lotus is in excellent condition for its age. Between its original patina and sporty details, its chassis and engine will astonish you with the same liveliness as when it left the factory in 1979.
