Description

The Lancia Fulvia Sport Zagato 1300 S Series 2 first appeared in 1970, at a time when Lancia sought to rationalise the production of the Fulvia Sport while retaining the originality of the version drawn by Ercole Spada for the Milan-based coachbuilder Zagato. Since its appearance in 1965, the Fulvia Sport has represented the boldest variant of the Fulvia range, with a very sleek fastback silhouette that contrasted with the coupé designed by Piero Castagnero. Series 2 retains this distinctive line but receives several modifications aimed at improving livability and simplifying production.

The most significant transformation concerns the construction of the bodywork. While the early Fulvia Sports made extensive use of aluminium, Series 2 adopts a fully steel-bodied construction, allowing more uniform production and greater durability. The roofline is slightly raised to improve interior space, while the rear wings are redesigned and the tail lights become horizontal, giving the car an immediately recognisable visual signature. Overall it remains faithful to the Zagato spirit: a compact, highly aerodynamic car with a strong stylistic personality.

Under the bonnet sits the famous Lancia V4 engine with a very tight 12° angle, designed by engineer Antonio Fessia. This 1, 298 cm³ engine, with twin overhead camshafts and fed by Solex carburettors, develops around 90 bhp in the 1300 S version. Coupled with a five-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive, it offers a lively and precise drive, supported by a particularly balanced chassis and by four-wheel disc brakes, still remarkable in this class in the early 1970s.

The Fulvia Sport also retains several original technical details, such as its side-opening bonnet that eases access to the mechanicals and its rear hatch, a solution still rare in a sports car of this era, which allows access to cargo space and improves cabin ventilation.

Produced until 1973, the Fulvia Sport Zagato 1300 S Series 2 represents the final evolution of this collaboration between Lancia and Zagato and today stands as one of the most usable and refined versions of the Fulvia Sport.

The car presented here is a Fulvia Sport Zagato 1. 3 S Series 2 of 1973, delivered new in Italy. It is in perfect mechanical and bodywork condition, with no corrosion. Very well maintained, it has an extensive invoices file as well as a restoration file. It is today ready to hit the road.

It is currently registered in France.
