Biarritz Sports And Classic Cars (BSCC) is pleased to present this 1972 MG B Costello V8.
The MGB Costello V8 was produced between 1969 and 1973 by the British tuner Ken Costello. During this period around 225 MGB Costello were built, of which 190 were coupés, making it a rare specimen.
Ken Costello designed these conversions to install a 3. 5‑litre Costello V8 on the light MGB chassis. It develops 150 horsepower and is paired with a short‑throw four‑speed gearbox with overdrive.
Following those years of artisanal production, MG would eventually offer its own V8 version of the MGB, directly inspired by Costello's. It would be produced in a much larger number of examples (around 2, 600).
This example wears a traditional English green livery with a Camel interior. It is right‑hand drive, like all Costello MGBs produced.
It is in perfect running order and ready to hit the road.
This Costello V8 was sold new in Germany, making it the sole example delivered in that country. It is identified and listed officially in the mgcostello. com register.
It is a MKII, distinguished by its flat bonnet rather than the bulged version of the MKI. The engine is fed by a Weber twin‑carburettor.
The V8 engine comes from the Rover P6, the most powerful of the original V8s, complemented by the Costello preparation, notably including the air intake pipe engraved with the tuner’s name. At the time, adverts described this car as a “Porsche 911 and Jaguar E‑type killer”.
In terms of maintenance and reliability, many interventions have been carried out, including radiator replacement, brake master cylinder, filters, and various mechanical improvements. A large number of invoices and maintenance documents are available, attesting to the care lavished on this exceptional car.
