Description
ALFA ROMEO SPIDER 1600 JUNIOR 1977
The Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Junior is one of those cars that, in itself, sums up a certain idea of the pleasure of driving in true Italian style: a timeless silhouette penned by Pininfarina, a characterful engine, a well‑matched five‑speed gearbox, and that unique charm of Alfa Romeo convertibles from the 1970s.
The example we are offering today is an Alfa Romeo Spider 1600 Junior, registered in September 1977, presented in a very elegant red / black hood / black interior with red piping.
The chassis number ARthe details below indeed matches the model, and the car is accompanied by a period certificate of conformity dated 14 September 1977, as well as a file including notably an appraisal carried out in 2018.
In terms of presentation, the black hood is recent, the chrome trim is in good condition, and the interior is in good condition with black upholstery accented by red piping.
As is often the case with this type of car, it should be approached with the right perspective: it is an old, endearing, lively car, with its qualities and some normal signs of a collectible car used and maintained over time.
The 2018 appraisal notably mentioned non-original paint, some colour variations and traces of former repairs. The report also noted an underbody with no deformation or apparent perforating corrosion at the time of inspection, a recent hood, and a car generally judged to be in good overall condition.
Under the bonnet, you find the much‑admired 1, 570 cc four‑cylinder Alfa Romeo engine, fed by two Weber carburettors, paired with the five‑speed manual gearbox.
During our road test, this Spider delivered what one expects: a light, pleasant, expressive car, with very good overall handling, a five‑speed gearbox enjoyable in use, and satisfactory braking.
In the interest of transparency, we would simply note a steering that feels a touch floaty, in line with what can be encountered on an older car of this age.
The invoice history shows regular maintenance, with several interventions carried out in recent years:
Sept 2018: replacement of the clutch master cylinder
Nov 2018: costs related to the FFVE, classic vehicle registration, administrative formalities and appraisal
Nov 2019: engine oil change, oil filter, front logoed mats, driver’s floor insulation, handbrake gaiter, 3‑note horn, consumables and labour
Nov 2022: oil change, oil filter, air filter, rear braking intervention (handbrake linings + rear discs), full body polish/ waxing
Mar 2026: new battery, overhaul of front and rear braking (calipers, pads, hoses) and installation of a radio aerial
This Spider 1600 Junior is not a concours car nor a full restoration, and that is part of its appeal: it retains a real personality, a coherent history file, and above all that rare ability to put a smile on your face from the first miles.
