Description

Phébus
Racing Special Tricycle 1898
Nice original-running condition racing tricycle.
Very rare French Phébus Racing Special Tricycle of 1898.

The Noé Boyer & Cie company of Suresnes in France belonged to the Gladiator company and started in 1898, in addition to its own automobile production, with the manufacture of tricycles and quadricycles under the Phébus brand. Production ended in 1903. In England, the brand name was Automobilette.

In the late 19th century and the early 20th century, cars and motorcycles became very popular with the wealthy. Tricycles (3-wheeled) and quadricycles (4-wheeled) were particularly popular. Numerous competitions were organised up to distances of 1500 km.

This tricycle has the special front brake for racing and has the large front sprocket for speed. For this reason, there is a special mounting for the surface carburettor, which is mounted higher. The engine is a Dion de Bouton. Fully inspected and running on a more modern carburettor. The surface carburettor is complete and original but still needs to be checked.
