Description
Mercedes-Benz 220 S Cabriolet (W180), produced between 1956 and 1959, embodies the pinnacle of 1950s German elegance. With fewer than 2, 200 built, this open-top version represented at the time a symbol of status, luxury and reliability — qualities that make it today a highly sought-after collectible.
This example was very likely delivered new in Germany, with its first registration on 14 October 1957. It was then imported to Italy in 1994, before arriving in Belgium in 2019. The vehicle has been registered in Belgium since October 2021, where it is used and maintained with care.
It presents in its original colour Anthracite Grey Metallic (code 172G), paired with a red leather interior nicely preserved, with matching veneer and carpet. The black fabric hood has been recently replaced and remains in excellent condition.
It is a true matching-numbers vehicle. It retains its original engine, a 2. 2-litre inline-six developing 106 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer currently shows 77, 000 km, and the car has undergone a full professional restoration. All major components — mechanical, bodywork, interior, brakes and electrical system — have been carefully inspected or restored to original specifications.
The car is in very good overall condition, both mechanically and aesthetically. The chrome is bright, the engine runs smoothly, and the clutch and gearbox operate without issue. Inside, the leather, wood and trim show a tasteful patina, with no major flaws. As in the era, the vehicle is not fitted with seat belts.
An elegant classic, suitable for daily use, ready to be enjoyed on sunny drives or to join a refined collection.
