Description
Newly sold in the United States in 1961, this Bentley S2 Countryman was ordered by a prominent American family for whom a standard Bentley did not suffice. From the outset the car was entrusted by the factory to Harold Radford’s workshops, the English coachbuilder favoured by the great fortunes and personalities of the era, to receive specific equipment designed to improve daily comfort and usability.
This configuration notably includes the two-piece folding rear seats, a hallmark of the Countryman version, offering a rare level of modularity for a Bentley of that period. The charming Rotoflare taillight is also among the optional equipment requested at order. This transformation is confirmed by a copy of the Bentley factory logs, explicitly mentioning a Radford S2 Countryman.
In 1961, owning a Bentley was already reserved for an elite. Engaging Radford to personalise the specification placed its owner in an even more exclusive circle. The result is a car with a distinctive configuration, made to order and today relatively uncommon.
Carefully maintained and recently serviced, this Bentley is ready to be enjoyed and used as it has always been. Its presence and balance rival that of modern Bentleys produced on a much larger scale.
The vehicle is viewable by appointment only at our premises in Cahors, Lot, about an hour north of Toulouse and its international airport.
