Description
A true rare gem: the Triumph Tiger 100, better known as the T100, was launched in 1939 as the sporty version of the Triumph Speed Twin and immediately established itself as one of the best high-performance British motorcycles of the late 1930s. Designed to reach 160 km/ h (100 mph), the Tiger 100 was genuinely capable of this speed, a remarkable performance for a 500 cc parallel-twin of the era.
What sets this T100 apart is its extremely rare bronze cylinder head. Available only to special order and produced in very small numbers, this high-performance bronze head offered better heat dissipation and more efficient combustion, further enhancing the Tiger 100’s already impressive sporting performance.
Among its contemporaries, machines such as the Rudge Ulster, Norton International, BSA Gold Star and the Sunbeam Model 90, few can rival the rarity and unique specifications of a bronze-headed Triumph T100.
This specimen has been fully restored with meticulous attention to detail. The engine has been completely rebuilt from new in Denmark, with a new crankshaft, bearings, camshafts, pistons, valves, guides, seats, etc. It has covered only about 500 metres since restoration and thus requires careful running-in and some minor finishing touches. The motorcycle is in very good condition, with high-quality paint and chrome.
The wheels have been rebuilt with new chromed rims and stainless steel spokes, and numerous components have been renewed, including clutch discs, primary and secondary chains, gears and cables. It retains matching serial numbers and is accompanied by its original Danish registration papers and other period documents, as well as newer Danish (EU) registration papers.
Minor adjustments remain to be made, notably the front brake adjustment, handlebar mounting tension, and a few details such as the original Triumph oil-pressure gauge dial, but this does not detract from the exceptionally rare and historic pre-war character of this pre-war Triumph sport machine. The 1939 Tiger 100 Bronze Head is one of the most exclusive and sought-after British sport motorcycles of its era.
