Description
I am offering for sale this 1981 Land Rover Series III 109 Station Wagon, on a historic-vehicle registration.
This is a particularly attractive example, not so much due to hype as to the rare coherence of its history, the quality of its presentation and the level of work already carried out.
This 109 benefited in 2021 from a complete body overhaul, with stripping before reassembly. This point is essential, as it explains the very beautiful visual uniformity of the whole today, the presentation quality of the body, and the especially healthy and value-adding look of the vehicle. In this long configuration, with white hardtop and roof glazing, it retains the nobility of the great collection Land Rovers.
The vehicle previously belonged to Espace Land, a Land Rover specialist, which used it as a service vehicle. It is therefore not a vehicle forgotten or hastily brought back into service, but a vehicle known, used, maintained and kept in an environment that perfectly understands the marque.
Mechanically, the original 2. 3 diesel atmospheric engine was replaced by a 2. 5 TD rebuilt by Alain Coquelle, an evolution that is well suited to use, providing greater driveability and a noticeably higher level of enjoyment. The engine invoice amounts to €7, 921. 58 incl. tax. The file also includes two additional invoices of €2, 020. 44 incl. tax and €3, 989. 08 incl. tax, covering notably removal and refit, replacement of the clutch, alternator, starter, heating elements, timing/ drive belt, as well as the refurbishment of the fuel circuit, hoses, wiring looms and the final fine-tuning. The total for documented works stands at €13, 931. 10 incl. tax.
Approximately 2, 000 km have been travelled since this intervention. The odometer having been replaced on this occasion, the total mileage is not guaranteed.
The underside is sound and reassuring, the stainless exhaust is new, and the interior shows a nice overall coherence, in keeping with the use and character of the model. This 109 today combines qualities that are hard to find together: presentation, heavy work already undertaken, solid file, credible history and genuine ease of use.
This Land Rover is not aimed at the buyer of a simple old utility vehicle, but at a discerning enthusiast, receptive to examples already seriously restored, and wishing to acquire a Series III 109 that is value-enhancing, mechanically complete and worthy of joining a quality collection.
