Description
Welcome to the seventies. This car perfectly embodies a decade when metallic gold paint and V8 engines were the solution to all problems. An era when the taxman wasn’t very good at maths and where everyone shone in glorious irresponsibility. And it was wonderful.
This 1974 Alfa Romeo Montreal is finished in the exceptionally extravagant and original colour “Oro Metallizzato” — a gold that makes you want to wear a chunky chain on an open polyester shirt. And we are totally fans.
The party continues inside with an equally remarkable cabin: Avana Beige. It’s the colour of a vintage smoking jacket — luxurious and elegant — and you almost expect someone to hand you a bottle of Chivas Regal and a lighter at any moment. This is the car of someone who doesn’t seek attention, but demands it.
Under this brilliantly low bodywork, drawn by design god Marcello Gandini (yes, the man behind the Lamborghini Miura), lies the evidence that Alfa Romeo’s engineers let themselves be inspired by a touch of madness. They installed the engine from their fierce racing prototype Tipo 33 — an advanced, all-aluminium V8, with dry-sump lubrication.
And look at those headlights: those clever slats. Gandini must have said to himself: “Let’s give them sunglasses — they’re too cool to be fully visible.”
The Montreal is the fruit of breaking the rules: you don’t always have to follow them. Only 3, 925 examples of this mechanical masterpiece were produced, making it a true rare jewel. And in this Oro Metallizzato shade — so rare that we almost hesitate to sell it — you own Alfa Romeo’s most legendary engine, wrapped in one of its most iconic 70s designs.
The Montreal is THE ultimate statement car.
Originally delivered in Europe and imported to the Netherlands in 2003, this car has been carefully maintained ever since.
