Description and highlights of this exemplar:
- Iconic colour Montreal Green
- 174, 900 km original
- Full service overhaul for sale
- Signed by Kyle Eastwood
Our Alfa Romeo Montreal, registered in 1973, shows 174, 900 kilometres from new. Its current owner has held it for 10 years, during which it has been carefully stored away, in a garage, under a cover.
This Alfa is presented in its highly sought-after Montreal Green colour, paired with a squirrel-colour interior, in superb presentation condition. The upholstery is original, with only a light touch-up performed on the driver's seat. The bodywork, in its original paint as well, shows a few chips and lacquer wear in some areas, a state consistent with an unrestored and true-to-original presentation.
Under the bonnet, you’ll find the 2. 6-litre V8 derived from the Tipo 33, developing 200 horsepower, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The on-board instrumentation is fully functional, and the mechanicals are sound. The vehicle benefits from regular maintenance with a classic-car specialist, with a full service carried out for the sale, notably including replacement of the braking system and refurbishment of all four wheels.
The vehicle history is partial, but service invoices are available. No costs will be payable by the buyer. Note that this Alfa Romeo Montreal features an aluminium exhaust and has been signed by Kyle Eastwood, musician and enthusiast of classic cars.
Model history:
The Alfa Romeo Montreal, produced between 1970 and 1977, is a sports car with a distinctive path. It was initially shown as a concept at Expo 67 in Montreal and did not have an official name. The public, impressed, nicknamed it "Montreal", a name Alfa Romeo kept for the production model.
The concept, designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, used a 1. 6-litre engine and the Giulia Sprint GT chassis. The production version, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1970, evolved significantly. It houses a 2. 6-litre V8 derived from the prototype Alfa Tipo 33, developing around 200 horsepower. This engine is paired with a five-speed ZF manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.
In terms of design, the Montreal is distinguished by its four headlights partially covered by movable grilles, a fake NACA duct on the bonnet, and louvres behind the doors, mainly decorative. Despite its bold styling and performance, its high price made it less accessible than rivals such as the Jaguar E-Type. The 1973 oil crisis also constrained its success.
Produced at around 3, 900 units, the Montreal was built partly in Arese and at Bertone, following a complex production process spread across multiple sites.
