Description
« Donkervoort D8 – No compromises. Drive as you live. »
There are fast cars, and there are honest ones. The Donkervoort D8 undoubtedly belongs to the second category, and on a good day, really to both. Hand-built in Nieuw-Loosdrecht by a small team with little interest in compromise, the D8 is that rare machine designed with a single objective: to create a pure connection between the driver and the road. No unnecessary weight, no superfluous technology, no excessive distractions. Only a steel tubular chassis, a lightweight body, and an engine placed so close to you that it feels more like a conversation partner than a mere mechanical component.
The D8 Zetec, powered by Ford’s famous and reliable four-cylinder Zetec engine, was Donkervoort’s answer to a question few others asked: what happens when you pair a reliable, easily tunable engine with one of Europe’s lightest sports cars? The result is a car capable of leaving behind much pricier machines on a winding road.
About this car
This 1997 Donkervoort D8 Zetec was delivered new to the Netherlands and has remained in the same devoted family throughout its life.
Shown in British Racing Green with a brown interior, it presents a configuration perfectly in keeping with the car’s honest and decidedly functional character.
What particularly sets this D8 apart is the development work done on the Zetec engine. The car benefits from a carefully selected suite of performance upgrades, including polished rocker covers, a modified ECU, intake trumpets and a revised inlet manifold, more aggressive camshafts with adjustable pulleys, and a Reverie carbon air box. The result is a livelier and more incisive power delivery from an engine that is already naturally eager to rev.
Maintained by a specialist and in excellent mechanical condition, the car has recently benefited from a full service. The soft top is also present for those moments when Dutch weather decides to remind you of its existence.
This is a genuine analogue driver's car: light, direct, track-ready and road-legal. Built in Nieuw-Loosdrecht at a time when Donkervoort remained faithful to the principle that things get better when you simply do them right, as difficult as that may be.
In the design of the Donkervoort D8, comfort and safety also occupied a central place. This Donkervoort is powered by a four-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. The leather upholstery underscores the overall elegance. Even in tight corners, the stunning sports seats offer excellent support. Among the equipment are also 17-inch alloy wheels and a sport exhaust.
