Correct matching original numbers (certificate of authenticity signed by Charles Morgan available). Exterior colour dark blue (Midnightwatch Blue) and interior Bordeaux leather.
The car is equipped with a black “grand froid” package including a soft-top hood, side windows in aluminium frames, and a tonneau cover. The Morgan Plus 4 “bustle back” is the rarest Plus 4 model due to its transition bodywork, with a more upright rear, in the style of the 1930s.
Only a few dozen examples of this model were built between 1956 and October 1958 (starting from chassis No. 4023), when Morgan opted for an angled rear panel and a relocated fuel flap. This classic Morgan was originally sold new in Minnesota, USA. It would appear that it was fitted with competition options straight from the factory.
This superb Morgan Plus 4 has been fully and expertly restored and modified in the United States. The changes were intended to improve braking (safety), performance, handling and driving comfort.
The braking system was modernised with a dual-circuit setup and Plus 8 disc brakes at the front.
A Triumph TR6 clutch was fitted for its smoothness and strength, allowing the prepared engine to handle the extra power.
The engine is the original Triumph TR3 block, equipped with two Weber twin-choke carburettors (42 DCOE). The carburettors and their air filters sit perfectly under a dedicated bulge on the right-hand side of the bonnet.
Cooling was also improved: an aluminium sump was installed, along with an electric fuel pump with a pressure regulator.
A lateral (side-exit) exhaust was fitted and, finally, top-of-the-range Koni shock absorbers were installed. The engine runs and sounds superb, and power is sent to the rear wheels via a responsive four-speed manual gearbox.
The car handles brilliantly thanks to its Koni dampers and Continental 195/ 60/ 15 tyres mounted on light wire wheels (72 spokes).
The driving experience is intense and spectacular: the steering wheel is close to hand, seating position is deep, and the breathtaking view over the long bonnet—where heat escapes through the two rows of cooling vents—is truly impressive.
Add to that the sporting soundtrack coming from the side-exit exhaust and you know the competition bug has been unleashed! For experienced drivers only!
