Description

1973 – Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce French registration document - A representative model of Alfa Romeo, with an exceptionally long production run - Series two, known as "Coda Tronca", of the Spider "Duetto" in its most powerful version - Belgian-origin car, re-imported from Switzerland to France by its owner in 2020 - Avorio colour, black hood, burgundy leather interior with faired front headlights - Recent paintwork and excellent condition for 71, 900 km on the odometer - Optimal running condition, rare hard-top, original service booklet and manual The Alfa Romeo Spider is the direct heir to the Giulietta Spider, later becoming the Giulia Spider, a true embodiment of Italian Dolce Vita. An elegant sports cabriolet, it had won over an international clientele thanks to its lines signed by Pininfarina and its brilliant twin-cam engines. Presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1966, the new Spider brilliantly took up the mantle of its illustrious predecessor. Based on the platform of the Giulia saloon unveiled in 1962, it adopted an entirely new body designed and produced by Pininfarina. Its style, full of curves, is distinguished by a particularly fluid silhouette and a slender stern that quickly earned it the nickname "Osso di Seppia" (meaning "cuttlebone"). This first generation also gained international renown through its appearance in the film The Graduate (1967), alongside Dustin Hoffman. At its launch, the model was simply presented under the name "1600 Spider". A competition organised by Alfa Romeo resulted in the choice of the name "Duetto", quickly abandoned following a dispute with the Pavesi company. Although this name disappeared from catalogues as early as 1967, it remains commonly used today to designate, by extension, all Alfa Romeo Spiders of this lineage. In 1968, the Spider 1750 Veloce joined the range alongside the more affordable 1300 Junior. All retained the famous twin-cam four-cylinder fed by two Weber carburettors and paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. From 1969 onwards came the series two, known as "Coda Tronca", recognisable by its truncated stern, which succeeded the first generation, now called by contrast "Coda Lunga". It was within this second series that the Spider 2000 Veloce was launched in 1971, powered by the twin-cam four-cylinder of 1, 962 cc developing 128 bhp DIN. More flexible, more powerful and still paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, it represents the pinnacle of the Spider's mechanical evolution. The most powerful and prestigious version of the range until the arrival of fuel-injected models, the Spider 2000 Veloce is today considered the most desirable of the "Coda Tronca" Spiders, happily combining performance, driving pleasure and timeless elegance. The formula proved so successful that the career of this Alfa Romeo Spider continued through several evolutions until 1994, testament to the remarkable longevity of the concept imagined by Pininfarina. Our Alfa Romeo Spider example, of the "Coda Tronca" type, still sometimes incorrectly called "Duetto" to designate this generation of spider, is the 2000 Veloce version, the top of the range. This Spider 2000, Type 105. 24, was sold new by the Europe garage in Tournai, Belgium, to its first owner on 28 August 1973 and registered shortly after on the 30th of the same month. Subsequently, it was registered in France in 2005 according to the Histovec report, then exported to Switzerland in 2013, before finally being re-imported to France in 2020 by the current owner. It displays a rather uncommon colour combination: its Avorio (103) exterior colour is paired with a burgundy leather interior and a black hood. Although repainted at a recent date and headlight fairings have been fitted to the front lights, it has the advantage of never having been completely restored and is in excellent overall condition, which makes it particularly attractive. In addition to some cosmetic work since 2021, this Alfa Romeo Spider has received routine maintenance. It shows only 71, 900 km on the five-digit odometer, which could correspond to its original mileage, it being noted that the speedometer cable was replaced in 2024 but its operation has remained erratic since that year. The car has nevertheless been driven little since. Apart from this fault, the latest MOT from July 2026 shows only two minor defects, attesting to the sound condition of this example. The test drive proved entirely satisfactory, revealing the car's dynamic qualities, with an engine in full health and running gear in good condition, providing precise and pleasant handling.
