The 405 offers access to the youngtimer world on a sensible budget, whether for purchase, maintenance or insurance: it can be driven by a new licence holder.
According to its history, this 405 was delivered new in France and belonged to a retiree from 1990 to 2016 (new registration format).
The current owner has owned this beautiful car since 2016.
General condition: This example is in rare condition, 100% original, with no outlandish modifications and free from rust. Its mileage is completely traceable. Its configuration is both very classic and authentic, which makes it all the more desirable.
A youngtimer that ticks all the boxes, ready to hit the road!
Exterior: The bodywork is in remarkable condition.
The original Peugeot colour is Blanc Meije: Peugeot code EWT (slightly ivory appearance).
The body seals are in excellent condition.
The original 14-inch Peugeot wheel trims are in perfect condition.
The bodywork is very straight, the alignments are clean, the bumpers and trim strips are uniform. There is no obvious colour difference between panels, so no sign of major impact repair. The same applies to the bonnet/ wing/ door gaps. The headlights are remarkably clear and the plastics are not discoloured.
There is only a slight scuff on the front right bumper.
Interior: The interior is impeccable, both in terms of plastics and upholstery.
The left outer bolster is barely sagging, the fabric is neither slack nor pilled, the stitching is neat and the seat cushion still holds its shape. The passenger seat is almost new. The visible rear bench is also very clean. The steering wheel shows slight shine on the rim, but nothing unusual.
The gear knob, its gaiter and the handbrake are also remarkably clean.
The dashboard is a real highlight: there are no significant cracks, no obvious warping or cuts for modern equipment: no airbag on this example.
Mechanics: The engine is indeed an XU with carburettor, consistent with the 1. 6 XU5 2C with 92 bhp that you'd expect on this version. This engine uses a twin-choke carburettor. This 405 is very pleasant to drive. The engine starts immediately and runs perfectly. No abnormal smoke, no water or oil consumption!
The timing belt has been done, the battery is recent.
No visible corrosion.
