Description
Lovely and quick Caterham Seven S3 from 1994.
This car was built by Vegantune, the specialist in Lotus Twin-Cam engines who developed their own version when original production ceased.
It has had only 2 owners up to 2026, the second since 1997.
The history file is completely comprehensive with all invoices since the chassis was purchased from Caterham!
It has covered just over 13, 000 miles.
It is therefore equipped with a 1700 cc version of the VGA, Vegantune's twin-cam engine, producing 160 bhp, and was actually used to promote it at the time.
For spirited driving, it's fed by 2 Weber carburettors, has a dry-sump oil system, a points ignition, a high-capacity cooling circuit, a free-flowing exhaust,...
It's the equivalent in power to a BDR 1600 but with 2 valves per cylinder so more torquey and cheaper to maintain!
The gearbox is a 4-speed Rocket type, the rear axle is rigid, providing a responsiveness you won't find on more modern cars with quite satisfactory comfort.
The suspension is adjustable.
The seats are leather and comfortable.
It's right-hand drive, and the steering wheel is removable.
The hood, boot cover and doors are in blue mohair fabric.
It's a rare configuration, equivalent to a modern 340 in terms of power-to-weight ratio with 160 bhp for 500 kilos, with the sensations, the flavour and simplicity that a carburettor-fed engine offers.
The sounds of the engine, carburettors and exhaust as the revs climb (up to over 7, 000 rpm) are something to experience.
The registration document is French, classic status, and the MOT is valid.
A very fine example, very quick, worth seeing and trying.
