Rosengart LR 539 SuperTraction Grand Luxe Cabriolet

This motor left the factory on 23 May 1939 and was delivered to engineer Roger Chambonneau in Caracas, Venezuela. Its fate during the war remains unknown, but it resurfaced in France in 1971. Until 1976, the cabriolet was registered successively in Gironde, then at Saint-Crépin-Ibouvillers, before being sold to Germany. Photographs from that period show a partially dismantled car, discovered in a barn. The new German owner, from Rhineland-Palatinate, undertook an initial restoration of the bodywork to get the cabriolet back in running order. Following a change of ownership in 1996, the car underwent a complete and professional restoration from January 2000 to March 2003 by the specialist workshop Diemer & Dahlheimer in Saint-Ingbert, near Saarbrücken, experts in classic car restoration. The vehicle was entirely rebuilt, and the original engine and gearbox were completely overhauled. The leather seats and hood were entirely refurbished by an upholsterer. The complete restoration history is fully documented by original invoices and restoration photographs, kept by the owner. The restoration was a complex undertaking. Although the vehicle was in its original state, the paintwork, leather and all wooden components were severely weathered. The bodywork was in relatively good condition, showing only minor rust marks. Following restoration, the Super-Traction was re-registered on 17 March 2003, sporting its current two-tone livery of dark blue and cream. In 2011, the Super-Traction was acquired by its penultimate owner in Berlin and has since been used regularly for outings, notably a trip to the Allgäu region. Over the years, further technical improvements were made, including: a slight power increase achieved through a fresh engine overhaul, as well as a revision of the rear suspension arms, dampers and springs. The original bumpers and trim were reproduced, a very rare Delage clock was acquired and the electrical system was converted to 12V. The penultimate owner, besides the Rosengart, owned several classic Citroëns. In 2023, it was sold to a Bavarian collector of prestigious pre-war motorcars. Previously, all identified defects had been rectified at a cost of approximately €20, 000. Unfortunately, the new Bavarian owner has experienced health problems and, on medical advice, must considerably reduce his lifestyle. Consequently, a large part of his collection is being sold, including this Rosengart in perfect running order, although he has not driven it since taking delivery.
