Description

We are delighted to present this 1962 Porsche 356 B T6 Super 90 Coupé, presented in its remarkable original Champagne Yellow (6205) configuration, paired with a black leatherette interior. Matching numbers and matching colours, this example stands out for its condition, its three owners since new and especially for an exceptional historical file, allowing us to trace its journey from its order as a new car nearly 64 years ago. The history of this Porsche begins in 1962, when it was ordered by Jack O. Ward, a resident of La Jolla in California, from Transol Car Sales in The Hague, Netherlands, through Porsche importer Pon's. The Porsche certificate, established in 1992, confirms its factory delivery date of 5 November 1962, as well as its original specifications: Super 90 engine type 616/ 7, gearbox type 741/ 2A, Champagne Yellow bodywork, black upholstery and optional chrome wheels. Particularly rare, the file preserves the original correspondence exchanged between Jack O. Ward and the Dutch dealer during autumn 1962. These letters allow us to follow with remarkable precision the various stages of its acquisition, from the deposit payment to the organisation of its transport to the United States. Originally intended to be received in New York, the Porsche was then to travel to California by road. The weather conditions expected at this time of year led its owner to ultimately favour maritime shipment directly to San Pedro, on the American West Coast. Among these archives is notably a letter dated 6 November 1962, in which the dealer confirms the chassis and engine numbers, perfectly in line with the information on the Porsche certificate and those of the vehicle today. The file also preserves the banking documents of the time, shipping instructions and various personal correspondence that testify to the care taken in acquiring this Super 90. After more than thirty years spent in California with its first owner, this Porsche moved to Switzerland in August 1995, as evidenced by the original customs documents preserved in its file. It was then registered in the canton of Zurich, where it benefited notably from the maintenance of Porsche 356 specialist Christophe Tanner. Its third and final owner subsequently acquired it in France, nearly twenty years ago. It has thus known only three owners since its delivery as new, a particularly rare history for a motor car of this generation. The bodywork is presented today in its original Champagne Yellow colour, a particularly elegant shade that highlights the timeless lines of the 356 coupé. The paint offers excellent presentation quality, with fine depth and careful alignment. The chrome, bumpers and their buffers are in very good condition, whilst the chrome wheels, in keeping with the optional equipment mentioned on the Porsche certificate, complement the whole harmoniously. The underside is also in excellent condition, testifying to the care lavished on this car over the years. The interior is another major asset of this example. Entirely original, it presents a remarkable state of preservation, particularly rare on a Porsche 356 over sixty years old. The black leatherette upholstery, door trim, carpets and headlining form a homogeneous whole, whose patina and quality of preservation fully contribute to the authenticity of this motor car. The dashboard retains its period presentation, with its Porsche instrumentation and integrated car radio. The folding rear seats, storage compartments and various trim elements recall the care taken in the interior design of these coupés. The opening rear windows are also a particularly valuable feature. The front boot houses the spare wheel, held by its leather strap, as well as the on-board kit. The car is also accompanied by its complete tool kit. Under the rear bonnet sits the 1, 582 cc flat-four engine in its desirable Super 90 version, developing 90 horsepower. This example retains its original engine type 616/ 7, in accordance with Porsche archives and 1962 correspondence. A major mechanical overhaul has just been carried out by a specialist in the model. The engine has been removed and its top end completely dismantled. The work notably included valve rectification and their seats, cylinder and piston cleaning, cylinder deglazeing, replacement of rings and seals...
