Description
Only 21, 000 original miles and fully documented. Let's turn back the clock… May 1967: Bud Boos, general manager of WHITE ALLEN Chevrolet dealership, orders a 327/ 300hp Corvette with the M20 four-speed manual gearbox and 3. 36 Positraction rear axle, to surprise his wife. The car is built in June and reaches the dealership in early July. Sadly, the Corvette does not win over the lady of the house… One year later and 594 miles on the odometer, the car ends up on the dealership's used car lot. A certain Bob Meadows, a keen Corvette enthusiast, buys it in August 1968. The invoice shows that he part-exchanged his 1962 Corvette, and arranged for side pipes to be fitted along with an oil change and a new oil filter. He keeps the car for ten years before passing it to his brother-in-law in 1978, by which point it has covered 9, 240 miles. The brother-in-law uses the Corvette occasionally but regularly until his sudden death in 1989. The car, now showing 17, 267 actual miles, is put into a garage by the widow. In 2001 she passes away too, leaving no heirs. The contents of the garage are sold and the Corvette falls into the hands of a devoted admirer of the model, who undertakes a complete restoration over nine years. This passionate owner keeps his treasure in a climate-controlled showcase, only very rarely taking the Corvette out (19, 621 miles by 2017), before having to part with it in 2023. Some 22, 940 Corvettes were built in 1967, of which 6, 375 had the 327/ 300hp engine. Of those 6, 375, only 1, 028 were fitted with J50 power brakes from the factory. (This Corvette also has power steering and other interesting factory options.) This example was assembled in June 1967 at AO Smith; it is a rare “Late-production” car (AO Smith production ceased on 30 June 1967). The history of this Corvette (outlined above) is noteworthy, as evidenced by its low mileage and the period documentation that accompanies it: the warranty contract with the purchase invoice, owner’s manuals, Protect O Plate, and so on, along with various period photos and papers tracing the history of successive owners. The fourth owner carried out a Frame-Off restoration between 2001 and 2010 (all invoices available). Everything was carefully dismantled and restored with the aim of making the car as close as possible to its “as-delivered from the factory” appearance. No aftermarket parts have been used, apart from certain usual consumables; this Corvette is special in that it has retained every component fitted on the assembly line. It is what NCRS judges call a “Born With” or “Matching Components” car. To preserve its originality while improving its usability, a major refresh was carried out in 2025: replacement of the clutch and a full rebuild of the Holley carburettor; oil change using period-correct mineral 10W-30 oil (GM 6041-M) and period AC Delco oil filter (NOS); period Delco Remy distributor cap (NOS); brake system: master cylinder, power brake booster and calipers (original parts refreshed and upgraded with O-rings); four Firestone Super Champion tyres (period reproduction), identical to the original fitment. In summary: 1 of 1, 028 examples; under 21, 000 original miles; end of AO Smith production; fully documented; full matching numbers; NCRS-level originality. This Corvette is aimed at a discerning enthusiast who cares about the authentic character of the car and appreciates cars with a story.
