The Appeal

The Newport was Chrysler’s entry level model and for 1962 it received a comprehensive makeover, the distinctive Newport front end being mated to the rest of a 1961 Dodge Polara.  The result was a long, cleanly styled sedan with some stand-out detailing, like the clever waterfall rear lights.

This 1962 Newport is fitted with the 5.9litre 361cu in V8 Chrysler motor and the TorqueFlite auto box with unusual dash-mounted switches rather than column shift.  It has been tastefully modified, finished in a creamy white with gold highlights and red pinstriping.  Lowered and fitted with polished chrome wheels it looks very purposeful, the twin exit exhausts likely announcing its presence long before it hoves into view.  The long, low Newport is popular on the classic American scene and this one looks ready for a Saturday night cruise.

The Newport was designed to be Chrysler’s accessible luxury model.  Its long clean lines are accented by some neat detailing like those distinctive stack headlights and elegant rear lights.

This 1962 Newport has been tastefully modified, the attractive cream and gold paintwork edged with red pinstriping and offset by those purposeful chrome rims.  With its Firebolt motor burbling through those big twin exit exhaust it exudes presence and looks ready for a new life of classic shows and drives on this side of the pond.
