Something between a cruiser and a café racer, the Harley-Davidson’s Nightster’s black-over-grey paint scheme give it a look and attitude that set it apart from other bikes and even other Harleys.
The traditional ‘peanut’ fuel tank and the chopped mudguards, add to the pared down appeal. Its low 24in ride height, coupled with those mid-height ‘clubman’ handlebars give it a distinct riding style, while the 1200cc V-twin gives it a potency both around town and on the open road.

With fewer than 18,000 miles on the odometer (it had its 15.000 mile service in November 2020), the bike has understandably little paperwork to accompany it. Now in the ownership of a very established Harley enthusiast, the bike is kept in dry temperature-controlled storage.
THE CONDITION
Presented in excellent overall condition
With the gentlest patina from sensible use and that imposing ‘stealth’ black-over-grey colour scheme (the metallic silver pinstripe and name are a nice detail), this is a very handsome bike. The low saddle, the teardrop tank and the higher ‘buckhorn/clubman’ style handlebars give it a stance that is pure Harley-Davidson.
The black paintwork retains a deep gloss, which is complemented perfectly by the bright, smooth chrome – no discolouration or pitting. The leather saddle remains in fine condition, with tight contrasting white stitching. Handlebar and footrest rubbers retain all of their texture and colour and show no cracks or splits. Light lenses are clean, and all ancillaries and accessories are firmly mounted. No dirt or grime has been allowed to accumulate under the tank or in the creases of the frame.
The business end of the Harley, its engine, transmission and running gear, remains in excellent condition. The V-twin itself and the crank case show no signs of leak or corrosion, and the distinctive grey powder coating remains intact across the unit – this goes for those distinctive exhausts too.
Leads and hoses look to be healthy with robust connections at either end, and the is wiring tidy. Looking into the recesses of the engine, there appear to be no areas of accumulated grime. This appears to be the case with the wheels also. Spokes are straight and the drilled brake discs clean.
The shining front forks are straight and show no streaks or discolouration, while the rear coil-over dampers look in especially good form.
The drive belt appears to be in fine form, as do the guides and guards shielding it. The whole of the frame appears straight, with clean joins and welds.
The bike starts and idles readily with no untoward sounds or smoke under load.
Summary
This is a fine example of an emerging classic. It’s an enthusiast-owned bike that offers great performance and captivating looks. It manages to be both understated while retaining a strong and individual presence. An enticing and charismatic machine.
