The Ashley Laminates Company was founded in 1955 by P Palledine and K Waddington, named Ashley after Peter’s Woodford Green home, where several Ashleys models were made. The Ashley 1172 GT Sports coupe was introduced in August 1958 and ended in 1961 with only around 75 models made. This car was one of the first Ashley 1172s made by Ivon Ashley in 1959. The car has Model Y Ford underpinnings and is a wind-up window model, the production of which stopped shortly after its manufacture in favour of sliding windows. Therefore, this is a very early and sought-after car with the added benefit that it is MOT/ road Tax exempt. For guidance, this actual car was photographed and listed on Wikipedia and in the write ups on all Ashley cars on the internet. It has had a full ground up restoration and is finished in pale green with cream leather trim offering stunning good looks reminiscent of an Aston DB5, E-type, AC Acceca and a Lotus Elite. This car is in excellent condition and for a ‘special’ made of fibreglass in its day - would be regarded as Concours.
