Description
After much consideration I have decided the time has come to sell my very rare 1975 Volvo 66GL. (And my 1978 Volvo 265 - also advertised on here!)
The Volvo 66 was the final version of the DAF range of cars using the "Variomatic" CVT transmission - yes the "Rubber Band" gearbox - launched in 1975 after Volvo bought DAF motors.
This car had a full bodywork restoration in 2015 and remains in immaculate condition in every respect. I have a full photographic record of all the work completed.
Current Mileage is 41700 which is believed to be genuine. Tax and MOT exempt it is MOT'd until 3/ 5/ 19.
Mechanically the CVT gearbox has been overhauled with new drive bands and diaphrams as is in full working order. The engine and (few!) electrical systems are also in top condition with no known faults.
The interior is in fantastic completely original condition although the drivers seat is starting to show some small signs of wear.
The Volvo 66 is now a very rare sight in the UK, with less than 10 believed to still be on the road. This is the earliest known surviving example having been registered in November 1975 just one month after the model was launched.
In short, this is a simply superb example, (the best?), of an incredibly rare car. It is also great fun to drive! I should say, it really isn't a car for the shy and retiring - everytime you drive it you will be centre of attention!
There is recent service history - from me - but most earlier history has sadly been lost. The original handbook and service book are present as is the original dealer key fob. The car will also come with a substantial collection of original brochures and promotional literature.
Well known around the Classic scene I was very proud that this car was selected to be displayed on the Volvo Owners Club stand at the NEC in 2015 It has also been featured on several websites and was selected to be in the Concours section at the 2018 "Festival of the Unexceptional". I have throughly enjoyed my 4 years owning this great little car and bringing it to its current condition. But I feel my work is done and have decided that it is time for a change and I want to return to my Classic Car "roots" with something British from the 1950's or 60's.
So, the time has come for someone else to take ownership of the 66 and, I hope, enjoy this wonderful machine as much as I have. I have lots more photo's, so please just ask if you would like more pictures - or any other information.
