Offered for sale is a rare and fantastic piece of old school luxury, but with all parts readily available from ‘Chevs of the 40s’ , as this mark is so well loved.
The Stylemaster, was essentially an updated 1942 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, powered by a 216. 5 cu in (3. 5 L) straight six engine, with one-barrel carburettor, driving through a 3-speed manual transmission. It has a single exhaust, MPH, temp and fuel gauges; clock; and a Super Deluxe heater/ defroster. It was offered in 2-door Town Sedan, 4-door Sport Sedan, 2-door Business Coupe and 2-door 5-Passenger Coupe models, the Business Coupe differing from the 5-Passenger Coupe in having a front seat only.
This fine stylemaster was imported into the UK in 2013 and is an original black car with a luxurious beige interior with front and rear bench seats that are fabulously comfortable. This car has been lovingly restored and prepared for long distance driving. It has a rare collection of period accessories including twin spotlamps, a windscreen shade and steering column mounted fan. The
tyres are a matched set of white walls, mounted on steel wheels with hubcaps.
It creates a huge amount of interest wherever it goes. This summer it not only won best in class at the Bowood Classic Car Show, but also won the popular overall vote to be named ‘Pride of Ownership’ to reflect the work that has gone on to restore it to such a good standard.
MECHANICAL: The engine starts easily, idles smoothly. The transmission and clutch work well and shift easily, while the brakes pull the car to a straight stop. The steering is smooth, easy, and tracks straight down the road. The lights, horn and gauges are all in working order.
EXTERIOR: The exterior physical condition of the sheet metal is very good to excellent. There is no rust, dents or dings, and the body panels are very straight. All the body panels appear to be original with excellent alignment. The black paint on the car is in very good condition. The chrome and stainless trim are all in original condition. The windshield and side window glass are all very good.
INTERIOR: The plush velour and cloth upholstery are all in great condition and take you back to an era where there were no compromises on quality. The door panels and kick panels are in very good condition. The steering wheel is original with no cracks and the gauges and interior trim all look fantastic with the mechanical clock restored and working perfectly. Front seat belts have also been fitted.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT & BOOT: The engine and engine compartment are clean. The paint and mats in the boot are also in very good condition. There is also an original jack located in the boot.
Over the past 12 months the car has been refurbished and restored with an updated braking system which includes a dual master cylinder and full adapter kit with new brake hoses, pipes, brake shoes and cylinders. The electrical system has been renewed with new HT leads, coil, battery, dynamo, headlights and modern hazard warning and indicator lights. The latter have been sympathetically fitted and can easily be removed. The rear axle, springs and drop links have been refurbished, as have the cooling system with new hoses and refurbished radiator. The car has a new exhaust system. The engine has been recently stripped and refurbished together with the air and oil filter housings. The car comes complete with a workshop manual, invoices and owner’s manual as well as a complete parts catalogue.
