Beschreibung
At the 1966 Turin Motor Show, Ferves (Ferrari Veicoli Speciali) introduced the Ranger, a small off road derivative of the Fiat 500 and 600.
There were only 600 units made between 1966 and 1971, and only around 50 have survived. The Ranger is categorized as a leisure and off-roading vehicle, which, for its construction as well as for its possible uses, distinguishes it from all other Fiat 500 and 600 derivatives.
It has a Fiat 500 steering wheel and 499 cc rear mounted engine, rear wheel drive. The body was a compact 4 seats torpedo, with round lines. Suspension and brakes are borrowed from the bigger Fiat 600 model. Other features include a steel beam chassis, detachable roof, optional removable suicide doors, four vinyl-wrapped seats, a folding windscreen. With a wheel base of only 1. 335 mm. gradeability near 100% , a lateral bank angle of 36° and a shorter differential gear ratio (top speed of only 44 mph (70 km/ h)), allowed the Ranger to be an off-roader in all effects.
The 4x4 version, presented in 1968, was obtained by modifying the transmission and mounting a front differential.
The body of the 4x4 was similar to that of the 4x2 but with a longer wheel base and front hinged doors. The price increase of the 4x4 version in comparison to the already expensive 4x2, made it to difficult to sell and only a few 4x4 were made.
This particular model has the square headlamps found on the contemporary vehicle, but seems to be the only one out there with such a feature.
VERY, VERY RARE MODEL.
