Look no further for a prewar 4 seat and 4 door tourer, which is easy to run with plenty of spares and advice on hand, is lovely to drive and yet is much rarer than more expensive exotica. First sold to Derbyshire Constabulary in 1936 as a pursuit/ patrol car, with uprated mechanics to give 30b. h. p instead of 21 as standard.
For some 30 odd years the car has been owned by the late Vice Chairman of The Austin ten Drivers Club, who, during the late nineties, carefully restored it from ground up, changing the Police black paintwork to Jaguar Primrose and black. Photos on file to confirm.
The car has been with me for some 18months, during which time the top end of the engine has received attention to exhaust valves and core plugs and an M. O. T. was obtained for good measure. The original unit had a high lift cam, aluminium head, down draught carb and was coupled to a close ratio gearbox. Although the current engine is apparently from a different example, it still has the down draught carb and does seem much quicker than the standard Ten.
The coachwork remains very sound and clearly the car has been kept out of the adverse weather. Underneath is good with leaf springs duly gatered. The interior is very good as is the hood and tonneau. Sidescreens are in plastic bags and have been little used. The polished wood dashboard is complete with correct period instruments, all of which are working including the clock.
The car attracts a lot of attention wherever it goes on runs and to shows. There is a good history file and it comes with handbook, spares list and various small spares and tools. This is a difficult car to part with but to my shame I have spotted another old and interesting find with has turned my head.
