Description
My A40 Somerset is for sale due to the purchase of a new project and as I own another classic as well, I have no room.
I have owned the car for almost 6 years, its been used regularly, locally and gently. Its never seen rain in my ownership. Due to it being 65 years old, and being a proper vintage, I'm not going to try and describe every part of the drive train and how it drives in detail, that's up to you to assess for yourself. But here is some of what's been done in my ownership:
Firstly 5-6 years ago, underbody checks and full waxoil.
Full, smart but not professional, respray
Since then, all fluids changed, some multiple times and checked regularly, none need doing at present.
All grease points done on a regular basis
New front screen rubber
All wheel cylinders replaced (front and rear)
Brakes all relined and all have bonded shoes not riveted
Copper brake pipes throughout I believe from memory, excellent flexi's
New rear axle oil seals and one new rear bearing, the second is new to go with the car.
Decoke and tappetts set etc
Halogen headlamp conversion
New thermostat and housing
Oil filter converted to spin on type (by last owner)
All tyres replaced, all matching radials, 2 excellent, 2 as new
New 75amp battery
Whitewall trims fitted and chrome beauty rings
Working semaphores and indicators.
Front seats were reupholstered professionally before I bought it and in a lovely soft tan leather. All seats have been nourished several times.
This car has given me years of pleasure and I'm sure it will to a new owner too! I know the car well so can answer any sensible questions. Any prospective buyer can be taken out for a proper test run and a chance to look over it properly.
Please note though, if you havent quite got the money ready, not really sure what it is, worry if you'll be able to drive it in traffic, hope it will drive like your 2 year old BMW or think that because I have maintained it, you wont have to, or that it wont go wrong ( just as all other 65yr old cars) ITS NOT THE CAR FOR YOU!
And finally, the V5C is here all correct. Chassis numbers and engine numbers are clear and match V5C.
Number plate is a nice 3 letter 3 digit job, in silver and black, non transferrable.
And yes, I believe its very reasonably priced for a quick sale, but I'm still willing for a small friendly haggle but only when you've inspected it and you are waggling the notes in front of me!
Thanks for looking
