1928 DELAGE DISS Sports Four Seat Special Tourer
A wonderful 91 year old motorcar, French blue with black leather trim, complemented by a tan hood. This beautiful vintage car includes two famous ex owners and has 53000 miles showing on the speedo. Originally owned by famous racing motorcyclist Stanley Woods – Isle of Man TT race winner x 10 and 29 Grand Prix wins until 1946. His biography is with the car and this car is mentioned in this book. Then sold to Mr Wilkinson followed by Mr Hall of Croydon, after which Mr Minifie owned the car 1961-1966 finally selling it to Lady Valerie Guinness. The car remained in the Guinness family until recently. Delage was hugely respected as motor car manufacturer in 1900s, producing exotic racers and refined tourers until the factory closed 1953. Few cars still exist, making this a rare find indeed. In the style of a racer, it is right hand drive, road tax and MOT exempt . Registration number YV2754, chassis 24714.
Originally a Weymann fabric bodied Int saloon, the car was transformed mid 50’s to a sporting four seater aluminium Sport Tourer, a common occurrence at the time. Weymann was a small French Coachbuilder but their car bodies were weak and soon distorted, hence the transformation to a sporting four seater. Later in the 1950s, a new engine was fitted and the Austin A70 engine was chosen for its weight and similar looks and performance to the original engine. The Delage Owners Club advises the chassis, axels and gearbox seem to be original, however the front shock absorbers have been changed.

History folder includes: current and previous V5s, photocopy of the original buff logbook, Spring 1968 copy of VSCC Delage Register Journal in which this car is listed, previous MoT certificates which seem to confirm 53000 miles (unwarranted), MOT related docs, DVLA docs, old tax discs, car images, Owners Handbook, Guinness family correspondence, write ups, lube chart, insurance docs, invoices, 2013 David Crawford book on Stanley Woods – The World First Motorcycle Superstar. His Delage is highlighted in Saloon format page 71. The foreword is by another famous motorcyclist – Sammy Miller MBE. This delightful car is eminently drivable and worthy of a vintage car collection, museum or vintage rallying.
