Description
1975 P Registered Daimler Sovereign 4. 2
Series2 Long Wheel Base
Very rare car indeed
Same production line and car as Jaguar XJ6 but finished off by Daimler who finished off cars for the royals for that extra luxury and bling
The only reason for selling this car is that I will no longer have access to indoor parking and don’t want to risk leaving this outdoors in the elements over winter should I not find a replacement internal dry storage unit
I’m not desperate to sell but would like this car to go to a good home considering the work put into this car
If it doesn’t sell I have no problem keeping her and enjoying her for much longer
This is the 4. 2 Automatic gearbox LWB Model, finished in the Regency red -
the only colour this car should come in.
Also comes with the expensive original Kent Alloy upgrade, finished with chrome centre caps & Maxxis white wall tyres.
Only 58400 miles on the clock. The car does not need to be MOT'd due to its historical marking and does not need road tax although it has to be applied for with zero cost
Classic car insurance will prob cost you £110 a year
This car was purchased at the back end of 2013 from Herefordshire (by an owner who had kept the car within his family for over 15 years) and bought back to West Yorkshire. The reason for purchase was pure nostalgia. My father's childhood friend was driving an identical version of this car in the 80's -
so he was reliving his youth
I have a massive folder with documents
Original purchase receipt
Virtually all the mots
Virtually all service receipts
Some old tax discs
Manuals
Service log book
V5 document
Haynes manual
Electric circuits diagrams
First service in 1976 £75 and £73 !
And continued as such for many years
No expense spared
The Daimler Sovereign Series 2 is getting rarer by the day - my research shows only 64 4. 2 LWB Auto models that are Taxed or SORN'd in the UK. With that in mind, they will grow into E Type money if well maintained and kept running over the next decade.
The car has been driven a few times a week for the last 4 or 5 months, with no oil pressure issues, no overheating, no smoke or loss of power - it's just a lovely drive! Don't take a risk on something which has been stored for the last 2 decades - you'll have to do all the work we've done!
Since 2013 the car has undergone a major transformation with no expense spared:
- Extensive work -
detailed photos available via request.
- some minimal Metal restoration completed with minimum need for welding work as it was a solid car to start with, esp underneath
- Restored engine bay area
- Replacement rear panels under petrol tanks
- new internal roof lining, sun visors, head rest restoration
- Seats and door cards restored
- replaced motors for electric windows
- New Dashboard installed
- Replacement windscreens and new rubbers/ seals
- Reconditioned gearbox and drives perfectly
- original Engine rebuild (strip down, cleaned up internally and externally, all new gaskets, heatproof paint on visible parts purrs like a kitten
- original Carburettor Rehaul and full engine service
- New battery
- Recondition of original radiator pressure tested
- New front radiator panel
- New front valance
- New light holders
- Replaced front lights
- Replaced new front shockers
- New Tyres
- Flushed Brake System and some new brake pipes
- Flushed fuel tanks
- New water Hoses all round engine and engine bay
- Replacement front chrome bumper installed
- 10 Stage Detailing
Probably over £9000-£10000 in the restoration alone!
As with all classic cars sometimes intermittent faults arise
Latest is speedo and brake lights sometimes don't function. I'm sure it's a simple fix, but I'm leaving any further work for the new owner now and will reflect in agreed final price unless I get a free weekend in the next couple of weeks to rectify it myself
So please note, this is not a project car, this is an extremely well looked after, maintained and recommissioned Daimler Sovereign as good as any others around £15-£20k level
This is not the same kind of car as the ones you see that require extensive work and which have not been driven for years that are selling for £5k
These cars do not like being stood around and not good for the engine or gearbox
It is not a brand new car
it’s a 46 year old car
as with all classics every now and then it will need some maintenance and TLC
It is not concourse
but in excellent condition
The next owner could easily take this to the next level where it’s worth £40k with minimal work, effort or cost
Has been to 2 car rally’s recently and had hundreds of people complimenting the finish result as well as having their photos inside and outside the car
Remember this was the alternative for a Rolls Royce or Bentley for the big executives or bank managers back in the 60s-80s
This car was recently used for a few family weddings and it turned so many heads - even stood next to Beaufords and other typical wedding hires. This could well be an investment, allowing for a chauffeur driven service for weddings! I’ve been asked every week for the last few months
Please do not send me links or compare prices to similar cars for less, I've spoken to these sellers and seen some of these cars in person - I know the difference. Please don't insult the car with derisory offers - it has value and won't go for a four figure sum, that much can be said.
Car is located in BD18, West Yorkshire.
Cash sale only, with buyer agreeing to bring two forms of ID and sign a sale agreement which is legally binding.
You will need to organise your own insurance and tax if driving away
