Description
Enzo Ferrari always felt that cars should be able to provide graceful and velocious transportation to more than 2 passengers. His quote 'most things can be said in a few lines' was well displayed in the visual statements his cars made. The 365 GT 2+2 was designed by Pininfarina's Leonardo Fioravanti to feature elegance through simplicity with a body built over and under a horizontal swage midline. The motor selected to power the car was no other than Colombo's V12 four cam F101 alloy engine producing 340 bhp delivered via a 5-speed manual gearbox to the rear wheels. Handling was precise due to the double wishbone coil over suspension at the front. Comfort at all speeds was achieved through a self-leveling suspension at the rear. Four years into production, the engine capacity was increased from 365 cc per cylinder into 400 cc and a year later carburation was replaced by a Bosch K-Jetronic system. Later that year Enzo and Leonardo selected the 400i to create the only 4-passenger 4-door Ferrari ever made, the Pinin, to celebrate Pininfarina's 50th anniversary which currently resides at the factory's museum as one of the best Pininfarina designs ever made.
The early 400i offered was specially ordered by Heibronn's Ferrari collaborator in Germany for his personal collection before the official IAA world premiere in Frankfurt. It features the rare 5-sp manual transmission and an exceptional color combination of Bruno Mogano exterior with Sabbia beige with brown interior. After 30 years and only 40k kms the 400i became part of a private collection in Athens, Greece. It is currently offered in preserved, fully maintained condition with just over 60k km.
