We are delighted to present for sale this late Land Rover® Lightweight, which was built in 1981 (production ceased in 1984).
Externally, this has all the period features we want to see in a ‘good’ lightweight – the front and rear bumperettes, bridging plate, front lifting eyes, military screw lenses and matching bonnet mounted spare. The vehicle sits on a brand-new set of our own 750 military tyres… these are self-cleaning, have a large sidewall to allow for good off-road ability, and the larger diameter gives extended gearing. A new canvas has also been fitted too. The combination of all of this gives a very stock looking lightweight – which is exactly what we like to see.
The interior is largely original – a new reconditioned square heater with front demist has been fitted, which is great to see. There are three standard seats in the front, with deluxe matting to the footwells. The rear is unfitted, though could house bench seats upon request to allow seven seated including the driver, for £295.
Out on the road, this lightweight drives as one would expect, aided by the larger tyres which give a more relaxing cruising experience. It delivers a pleasing ‘of the period’ drive – keen to accelerate and it stops just as it should. There is a decent folder of receipts with the vehicle showing routine maintenance being carried out, which is perhaps why it drives in such a well sorted fashion. There is also an original Land Rover® Lightweight user manual too – handy for those starting out!
In summary, if you are looking for a 12 volt, right hand drive lightweight, then this could be for you. With original military features, classic insurance and upcoming MOT & Tax Exemption, this vehicle should prove to be a solid investment, whilst proving cheap to run in the meantime. It turns heads wherever it goes – enjoying many glances and waves as you drive along!
