WOW-super rare 1971 Moto Guzzi Ambassador Police bike just arrived from the USA and currently undergoing the UK registration process. Although MOT exempt, the bike will come with a 12 month MOT for the new owners peace of mind. This process should take around 3 weeks to complete.

You'll have no doubt seen the 70s movie "Magnum Force". These early 70s loop frame Guzzis starred in that film and others.

The police bikes had many modifications over the civilian versions including-

Extra long Police side stand

This is a GENUINE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT BIKE. It is not a copy, tribute etc, it is the real deal.
Not to be confused with the "California" civilian model which sported chromed fenders but did look similar to the Police version!
When the bikes had reached the end of their service they would be auctioned off.
Prior to auction the LAPD motor pool would remove police lights and friction siren and would subsequently grind off the siren mounting bracket.
The best way to really identify a true Police version is to look for signs of the removed siren bracket plus the cut out at the front of the rear fender to allow for the Siren fitment/ movement. This bike has been restored but you can still see where the siren bracket has been ground off. This is in addition to it having all the correct features mentioned above.
So there you go, it's a real one, it starts up first press of the button and runs very well with no smoke or rattles.
Although the bike is both MOT and tax exempt it will be sold fully road legal and registered with a UK V5 document plus a new 12 month MOT for buyers peace of mind. There are also workshop manuals and operators manuals included.
The bike has undergone recent restoration work, both cosmetic and mechanical to include the following.
Mechanically it has had a recent new wiring loom, new battery, engine rebuild including new Gilardoni cylinders liners and pistons, a rebuilt transmission with new clutch, plus rebuilt shaft drive. Two new tyres have been fitted too. All the work is documented with a large pile of receipts.
Cosmetically all panels have had a professional repaint in original LAPD colours and all pin striping has been applied by hand. The paintwork on this bike is simply stunning.
The bike fires straight up, no smoke , no rattles, runs and rides superbly just as she should.
The bike has had nearly £5000 spent in work to get it to this standard, and has covered less than 1500 miles since completion. It is just about as good as it gets and certainly for under £15k!
This is only the 5th genuine ex Police bike I have come across in over 15 years of importing classic vehicles from the States. They are so so rare, there is a company in California called Cycle Garden, that sells them fully restored, however a completely rebuilt bike with friction siren will set you back just shy of £30000 sterling including shipping / duties etc!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing missing from my bike is the B&M friction siren, they are just impossible to find through the usual channels as many were destroyed. CG will supply a restored siren for £2500 if you really really want one.
